Documentary Reflection

I enjoyed creating documentaries with my peers because we are able to send a message to society about a certain topic that is being discussed in the world. For example, my group and I are creating a documentary about the different kinds of fashion at schools. Therefore, we needed to outline our documentary in the form of a script. For the script, we needed to write the dialogue that speaker, or a voice-over by a certain person from the group, is going to say to the audience and what shot or image we will be taking in that particular scene. For example, while the speaker will be stating random facts about a particular fashion style, thrift, we will be showing people wearing this kind of fashion style to school over time. Besides the script, we were assigned to do a storyboard which helps us layout our ideas on how the documentary will look like. Another example, we will be drawing a person being interview by us or wearing their outfit that we are focusing on in the documentary. After storyboarding, we would film these ideas in real life. Therefore, we would film a certain person wearing thrift store clothing which is based on the storyboard. After filming the scenes, we transfer this footage to iMovie in order to start the editing process. Through editing the footage, we will input a voice over and cut some of the footage that is unnecessary to the main theme in the documentary. Finally, we were able to end the documentary and showed it to our Journalism 1 class.  Overall, I enjoyed creating documentary due to the amount of creativity that I and my group had over time.
